Separating Male Marijuana Plants
If you use clones to grow your marijuana plants then you have no worries about this issue but if you are using seeds then you will likely have a few male weed plants in your crop. You don’t want to leave them there though. Male plants can fertilize female plants and this is something that no grower would want. You have to remove the male weed plants from the grow area before the male marijuana plants begin flowering and creating pollen. If you want to create seeds then you can leave the male plants there but most people will not want to do this. With about half of your seeds turning male it definitely is a major issue. If you plan on having future crops and want to be sure that you get only female plants then you may want to use clones instead.
Mature Plants
Usually if the marijuana plants are of the same strain the male weed plants will reach maturity level before the female plants will. There will be easily noticeable small sacks on the male plants which do not show up on the female plants. These sacks contain what will soon be pollen. As soon as you see any of your marijuana plants with these sacks you will have to get those plants out of your grow area if you don’t want to produce any seeds. The opposite sign of gender would be pistils (looks like white hairs) which will display on female plants.
Not all male plants produce weak marijuana. Usually the marijuana you get from male plants will be weaker than the marijuana you will get from female plants but some male plant dope can be potent. It depends on the strain you are using. If you take male weed plants out of your grow area you should try to cut off the top six to ten inches of the plant and dry it out. You might be able to get high from this part of the male plant if it is potent enough.
